Assessment and Reporting
Assessment
Assessment is an important part of the education process. In Divine Wisdom, it is a policy of the school that the scheme of work in each subject must provide for frequent checks on the progress of students. The purpose of school-based assessment is:
- To encourage students to learn and apply themselves to their work.
- To identify students’ strengths and weaknesses.
- To help the teacher to examine critically the quality of the learning process; i.e. to know whether the student has been effective in class and to indicate whether he/she is ready to move on to another area of work.
Assessment procedures include the following:-
- Informal classroom observation
- Formal, continuous assessment of work done in class – oral, written, practical
- Class tests
- Group tests
- Terminal examinations
- Assignment-written, projects, practical etc.
Not all the departments use all the methods of assessment as some are not appropriate to the content of some subjects. The subjects of this continuous assessment are recorded by each department and form the basis of school reports to parents. School policy requires that all reports provide written comment on each pupil’s performance.
Reporting
Our school’s progress report is aimed at advising parents on their child’s ability, effort and attainment in each subject studied. Considerable efforts have been made to report on all the aspects within a subject and to provide meaningful comments to support or explain grades attained.
In addition, parents are always welcome to make enquiries about the progress of their child by making contact with the appropriate member of the Guidance team.
Reports will also give details of a student’s strength and areas for development in each subject. This ensures that parents have a clear understanding of their child’s progress through the information provided in this report.
-
Private Class
If your child shows a strong sign of experiencing academic difficulty in any subject, the principal will report it to the parent through a telephone call. The parent may decide to give a private assistance to the student by arranging a private class for the child.

More so, our students are advised to buy their recommended textbooks and notebooks from the school bookshop in order to avoid buying a wrong book or a pirated book. Selection of textbooks is based upon how we might best prepare the students for post -secondary school programme.
The comprehensive book list is available at the Excellence Bookshop located within the campus.

Excursion/Field Trips
Leaving the classroom and going on a field trip can achieve a good educational experience. Students are to understand that this is a privilege and with it goes the responsibility of representing our school in a very positive manner. The same policies that apply to school and classroom behaviour also apply to students when on a field trip.
Participation in trips and excursions, whether residential or non-residential, can do much to enrich and enhance the educational experience of students. During the past few years students from DWIS have had the opportunity to take part in a large number of excursions which have ranged from day trips to historical sites or Geographical field trips. Students participating in a field trip are responsible for obtaining and completing all assignments missed during the trip. Financial Policy

We believe that tuition payments are an investment in your child’s education, and It is the responsibility of the DWIS Directors to form policies concerning the amount of tuition and method of payment, and to ensure that adequate financial resources are available for the operation of the school. DWIS has financial and contractual agreements with staff and vendors which enable the school to achieve her purpose for the students. These obligations necessitate that parents make firm financial commitments to the school.
This therefore means that, parents should make payment of school fee on or before resumption of every session or term as the case may be. However, parents could enjoy a grace of two weeks after resumption to pay up their dues. Otherwise, their wards will be deprived of entering the classroom.
All payments should be made into any of our under-listed school bank accounts and the teller should be exchanged for school receipt at our bursary department.
- Wema Bank Plc – 0228125325
- STERLING BANK – 0042109184
Account Name: Divine Wisdom Educational Institute.
A discount of 5% will be allowed on school fees paid at once for a session not later than first week of resumption. In addition, parents or guardian having more than five wards will be given further considerations on demand. (Discount of 50% on tuition fees are given to parents who have 5 children and above in the school, the 50% is on the last child.)
With God as the strength of our finance, we all are sure to flourish and succeed.
Visitors Policy

All persons who are not staff or registered vendors of the school must fill a visitor slip at the gate to enable the security direct such persons to the appropriate office. This is also important for security purpose. Parents are not allowed into the school premises except on visiting days or by special invitation. Parents are asked not to go directly to the classrooms, but are required to come to the principal’s office to obtain permission to see their children, deliver messages or bring students’ belongings. Parents will be issued a “parent badge” when on campus to ensure students' safety. Parents and visitors are asked to dress modestly when on campus or participating in school-organized activities.

Attendance Policy

One of the keys to successful academic achievement is regular attendance at school.
Regular attendance is required by Divine Wisdom International school policy. All school days on the calendar are considered full days unless otherwise specified through notification of special events. All activity days are considered compulsory attendance days. School attendance becomes a permanent part of the student’s record.
We believe that regular attendance in class is essential to the success of a student’s school experience. One can seldom ever make up or compensate for absences from class. Any work done to make up what was missed during an absence is primarily an effort to bridge the gap in the classroom experience. The school discourages taking extra days before or after a scheduled vacation, mid-term break or any time school is in session.
Regular attendance is essential for a successful school work and for training for the workplace in the future. Students are only allowed at most five (5) excused absences for the entire term.
An absence is defined as not attending school, not attending a class, or both. Any student in school accumulating more than (5) excused absences may be retained in that class at the end of the year.
Absences are classified either as excused or unexcused.
Excused Absences:
- Illness of the student
- Bereavement in the family
- Court-required appearance
- Medical excuse from a physician
Unexcused Absences:
All unexcused absence attracts severe penalty as this will hamper the academic success of the student.
